Career Guidance
At Assumption Secondary School, the guidance service aims to promote self-awareness among students in a safe and supportive environment. It also assists and encourages students to make informed decisions about personal, educational and vocational areas of their lives.
The Guidance Counsellor works closely with all Senior Cycle students to advise and assist them in both their Leaving Certificate subject and third-level course selection. Some of the guidance activities that are available to students include:
- One-to-one/group counselling and referral
- Psychometric testing and interest inventories to assist educational and vocational planning
- Career information, including attendance at career events such as the Higher Options Conference and college open days
- Weekly careers guidance classes with presentations on topics such as CAO, HEAR, DARE, UCAS, QQI, CV preparation and interview skills
- Visiting speakers from various universities, colleges and apprenticeship courses.
- Scheduling events for College Awareness Week.
- Linking with the Trinity Access Team (TAP).
The Guidance Counsellor is a member of the Student Support Team who work together in order to achieve the optimum outcome for students.
